Camp Director/Ira Simon

Ira has been a Camp Director at Winston Day Camp since 2001. Ira, along with his wife and two sons, reside in Monticello. Since 1994, Ira has been the Principal of Secular Studies for a local parochial school. Ira's camp experience dates back to 1970. He is a certified Special Olympics coach in basketball, bowling, Nordic and alpine skiing and golf. Ira is a certified official in both soccer and basketball, and is active in recreational programs in Sullivan County.

Our Adult Staff

Winston Day Camp has the largest adult staff of any day camp in Sullivan County. This includes two Camp Directors, group leaders, who are all certified teachers and/or education professionals who oversee each age group and their counselors, certified lifeguards, specialty staff/activity instructors, advanced first aid/CPR certified staff, and office staff who serve the needs of parents and campers. Almost all of our adult staff return year-after-year, and work as a team to be sure that every camper has a happy and safe summer camp experience.

Our Mature Counselors

Our counselors are college students, college-bound high school students, or graduates of our Counselor-In-Training program. Each staff member attends our own comprehensive orientation/training sessions where we discuss every aspect of running a fun, yet safe camp. We look for staff members who are energetic and enthusiastic and truly enjoy working with children.
